Book Reports
Students should be working on their novel book reports. They should have their handout and rubric that they were give in class. See class files for another copy.
Holocaust Unit
We are reading our Holocaust novels, Numer the Stars (1st and 6th periods) and The Devil's Arithmetic (2nd and 5th periods). We will continue to study conflict and characterization. This week we will also focus on tone andmood. Students should be reading each night and studying stems or spelling as well.
1/31/2011
This week students will be keeping a personal journal in connection with our reading of The Diary of Anne Frank. They should have began their journals on Sunday (1/30/11) and will continue them through Saturday (2/5/11). I will collect them on Monday (2/7/11). They should be writing at least a page in length. We made the journals on this past Friday (1/28/11) so all students should have what they need to complete this assignment.
1st and 6th periods will be working on spelling this week. Look for the words in their notebooks. I will post them online this afternoon.
2nd and 5th perios will continue working on stems list 25. They will have their final quiz on this list on Friday using context clues. (This is the sentence test.) I will give out the sentences today in class for students to use for studying along with their definitions:)
Beginning of 3rd Nine Weeks
We will begin our unit on Informational Text this week. We will also begin reading and discussing literature about the Holocaust. Students will go to the media center on Tuesday (1/225) to begin this discussion led by Mr. Hall. We will read various texts including The Diary of Anne Frank (an adapted version), Number the Stars, and The Devil's Arithmetic. Students will also study about persuasive techniques. We will continue our study of stems and spelling words. Students will still be reading and responding in their reading journals (advanced will be using a chosen Holocaust text to use for their reading journals this nine weeks).
